Dr. Christopher Spankovich is a professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Medicine in the Department of Otolaryngology and Communicative Sciences. He serves as the Vice Chair of Research for the department, as well as the Director of Education for the Division of Audiology.
Dr. Spankovich's research program is translational in nature panning both human and basic areas focused on early identification and prevention of acquired forms of hearing loss and tinnitus. Current lines of research include epidemiological research in identifying risk factors for hearing loss and tinnitus; basic research in prevention of hearing loss and tinnitus related to noise, ototoxic drugs, and aging; and clinical research in early identification of cochlear/auditory neural pathology and tinnitus/sound sensitivity management.
Dr. Spankovich is the author or coauthor of over 20 articles in peer-reviewed scientific publications and four book chapters and has given more than 40 presentations nationally. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Audiology, the American Auditory Society, and the Association for Research in Otolaryngology. He serves as an editorial advisor for Audiology Today.
